The directory lists more than 800 halal restaurants across Greater Montreal. Roughly 340 are in Montreal proper and close to 120 in Laval; Longueuil, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Saint-Léonard, LaSalle, Brossard, Saint-Laurent, Pierrefonds and Montréal-Nord follow, each with a dozen addresses or more. Coverage reaches Greenfield Park, Pointe-Claire, Blainville and Mirabel, where the choice is thinner but real.
Lebanese and Middle Eastern food leads by a wide margin: nearly 150 Lebanese addresses, about as many grill houses, a hundred chicken restaurants and some thirty shawarma counters. Indian and Pakistani tables form the second block, followed by Turkish, Maghrebi and Moroccan kitchens, then a handful of Afghan, Persian and African addresses. Quick service dominates — burgers, pizza, kebab and sandwich shops make up close to half the listings — but 65 restaurants flag vegetarian options and about fifteen serve seafood.
Every listing carries a halal status: “verified halal” for a little over nine restaurants in ten, “to be verified” for the rest. Around 70 addresses are flagged as partially halal, meaning only part of the menu qualifies. Muwali does not certify anything: the status reflects what was gathered from the business and the community, and it can change with a new supplier or a new owner. When in doubt, ask the restaurant before ordering.
Listings also say whether alcohol is served (close to 580 places serve none), show opening hours — available for nearly nine restaurants in ten, most of them open on Sunday and nearly 400 closing at 11 p.m. or later on at least one night — and give the phone number and website where they exist. Delivery and takeout are noted when the business offers them.
Yes, close to 120 listings in Laval, where grills, Lebanese and Middle Eastern food and quick service dominate. Longueuil has about thirty, many of them chicken and rotisserie counters, and Dollard-des-Ormeaux about twenty, including several Indian and Asian tables.
The listing shows “verified halal” or “to be verified” and flags menus that are only partly halal. It is not a certification: the status can change, and a phone call to the restaurant remains the safest check, especially for meat.
Hours come from owners who manage their listing or from periodic updates against public sources. They can differ on holidays and during Ramadan; the phone number on the listing lets you confirm before heading out.
Lebanese and Middle Eastern first, then Indian and Pakistani, Turkish, Maghrebi and Moroccan, with a few Afghan, Persian, Asian and Mexican addresses. The Muwali app lets you filter by cuisine and by distance from where you are.
